10 FUN Things You Can Do With Mom On Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day! Mother’s Day can be a busy and stressful time for some people. Especially, if you wait until the last minute to purchase a gift. However, this year you can have the best Mother’s Day yet and it won’t break the bank. We put together 10 fun things you can do with mom on Mother’s Day.

Happy Mothers Day Quotes

History Of Mother’s Day

Did you know the creator of Mother’s Day, Ann Jarvis originally celebrated Mother’s day in 1908, three years after her mother’s death as a tribute to her mom and motherhood everywhere. Although Ann never had any children of her own, her efforts led to recognition of Mother’s Day as a national holiday within six years! As the creator of Mother’s Day Ann tried to end the holiday when it started to be commercialized after she felt that the holiday was not being recognized as she envisioned. She never succeeded in her efforts to abolish the Holiday and Mother’s Day is now a 20 billion dollar holiday.

As you think about Mother’s day should we consider breaking the bank or just honoring mom? I think the answer is somewhere in between. It’s important to celebrate our mothers and honor them to show them we love them and appreciate them.

Here 10 Ways To Honor Mom That Won’t Break The Bank

1. Create A Picture Album For Mom: Find your top 10 favorite photos with you and mom and create a picture book in a photo album.

2. Write Mom A Poem: In your own words write mom a sweet poem to show her how much you care about her and love her. Also check out write a poem in 50 seconds for some help with writing a poem. Sometimes the poems are kind of silly, but it’s a great resource for words that rhyme for your special poem. It will also make you smile. Everyone needs some more joy in their life.

3. Take Mom To The Park: Pack some lunch and take mom to the park. If you have children it is also a great place for bonding with family. Give mom your full attention and don’t let anything distract you from spending quality time with mom.

4. Take Mom To The Beach: Pack a lunch, put on your flip flops and take mom for a walk on the beach. There is nothing more comforting than having sand in your toes while walking on the beach with mom. It will be a priceless memory.

5. Take Mom To The Local Flower Garden: Flowers are in full bloom during the spring time. Instead of buying mom a $100 floral arrangement, take mom to see live flower fields and buy her a bouquet of flowers. Look at your local newspaper for flower gardens, flower fields or flower festivals in your area.

6. Make Mom Breakfast In Bed: Nothing says I LOVE YOU MOM like breakfast in bed. We don’t care what you make. It can just be fruit, cereal and coffee. As long as it is made with love, you will make mom’s day.

7. Take Mom To Lunch At her Favorite Place: Does your mom really want to dine at a fancy restaurant or does she prefer that mom and pop restaurant down the street? Don’t forget, it’s Mother’s day. Let mom decide where she wants to celebrate and take her there and make it just like old times.

8. Give Mom Unlimited Access To Her Favorite Magazines: You can purchase an app such as Nextissue for under $20 a month and bring over 500 digital copies of magazines to mom’s tablet.

9. Make Her Gift EXTRA SPECIAL: If you have already purchased her gift make it extra special. For example if you bought her an iPad or iPhone fill it up with special memories and include photos of you, her and family. Buy her some of her favorite books or take the time to help her learn how to use the gadget.

10. Just Show Up! Pack yourself in your car and bring mom the best gift of all, your beautiful smiling face. Don’t forget MOM really just wants to spend time with you. In our busy digital lifestyles, the biggest and greatest gift you can give MOM is YOUR time.

No fancy lunch date for our family this year! We’re taking mom to her favorite family mom and pop restaurant.

Happy Mother’s Day! Hope you find our tips useful.

Giving Guide For Giving Tuesday Ideas

After Cyber Monday comes Giving Tuesday.  Giving Tuesday is a great way to support local & national nonprofits during the Christmas Holidays by giving back to nonprofits that are making a difference to our local and global communities.  The  nationwide philanthropic event will be as huge  of a success for nonprofits as Cyber Monday and brings together families, communities and nonprofits.

My family celebrates giving everyday by giving back  to local charities and making contributions to multiple nonprofits. It has been a way of life for us since childhood.   Giving Tuesday is driven through social media and is a global effort to highlight the importance of giving.  Last year the initiative raised over 10 million dollars for charity.

If you are a parent, this is also a great way to share the gift of giving globally with your children.

Interior Designer Genevieve Gorder Wake Up Your Walls Tips & Tricks

Our featured guest, Interior Designer Genevieve Gorder also provided us with some design tips to help us create inspiration and beauty in everyday life.    My favorite tips:

Tip #1 Paper templates make it easy to design your own wall collage

Photo display walls are a great way to add a personal touch to any room. The best part is designing the layout – choose pieces that will balance each other out in weight and color when they’re hung together. Once you’ve selected your photos, cut paper templates in sizes of the photo wall décor you want to use (paper bags work great – avoid using newspaper as it can mark your wall), tape the templates up with blue painters tape and play around with the collage design before you get the hammer out!

Tip# 2 – Scan anything and turn it into wall art. It’s easy.

You can scan almost anything to create wall décor for your home. Children’s artwork, original artwork, vintage family photos, wedding and baby announcements, concert and sports tickets, baby sonograms, really anything – to create personalized wall décor that allows you to relive and enjoy the sentimental moments in life everyday.

Tip #3 – Design secrets to a great looking photo wall collage

As a follow up to the paper templates, here’s another tip on actually laying out your photos when creating wall collages. To create depth, mix different sizes and types of wall décor such as the gallery-wrapped HP Premium Canvas, framed enlargements and brushed silver-look edged Mounted Photos. You can create large or small displays to make an art statement, create a family story or celebrate a life event.

The best advice she gave me was to decorate one room at a time instead of trying to decorate all the rooms in our home at once.  She really inspired me to take on decorating our home.   I’m very grateful to Genevieve for sharing her tips.   For a complete list of all 8 Tips, Download  Genevieve’s HP Photo Wall Décor Do It Yourself Tips & Tricks .

My 2013 Nissan Pathfinder Experience

I was recently invited to attend the Los Angeles Internationa Auto Show – Nissan NEXT Event to preview the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder.   The all new Pathfinder is a mid-sized SUV and features a redesigned chassis, dual moonroof, a slightly larger model, increased fuel efficiency and is also equipped with a lot of technology features for the entire family.

As a mom one of the first things I look at in a car is safety.  The Nissan 2013 is equipped with several safetly features including built in GPS to immediately detect your location, antilock disc brakes and six front-seat & full-length airbags.  The  2013 Pathfinder also has a hands free built in phone system, a 360-degree AroundView Monitor camera system, a backup camera and parking sensors.  There are also child safety rear door locks for the passenger doors.

The second thing I look at is the appearance and features. Is it easy on the eyes?  Does it have an iPhone connection?  Can I listen to my favorite music? Will my family be entertained? These are the type of questions I have when checking a car.  The Nissan 2013 Pathfinder is a classy and sexy mid sized crossover SUV.  When I stepped into the vehicle is feels like a luxury car.   Immediately upon entering the car I had to check to ensure there is a USB connection for my iPhone.  I found it and was very pleased because it also had a roomy center-console to store my purse, CDs, DVDs and personal items.

If you are an adventurous family like mine, the vehicle also features 2WD, 4WD or Auto mode options and 5,000 pound towing capacity to tow your boat, trailer or camper on a hitch.  The beauty of this car is that it seats 7 people comfortably for a large family such as mine.  The seats in the rear also fold down for added cargo room.

The interior of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder includes seats for 7 members of the family.  There is a lot of legroom for all the passengers and a roomy in the cargo area to carry groceries or sporting equipment.

The 2013 Nissan Pathfinder we previewed includes a Tri-Zone Entertainment System which is controlled with a touch screen display on the dash and Onstar FMV (For My Vehicle) feature for navigation services. The driver and front seat passenger can enjoy satellite radio while the remaining passengers watch movies on dual 7-inch DVD monitors.  One of the best features of the entertainment system are the wireless headsets and rear auxiliary audio and video input jacks for family members that want to plug in their video games or electronic equipment.

The Nissan Pathfinder has evolved from a rugged mid-sized SUV into a luxury crossover.   This vehicle is a great option for techie families in need of a  mid-sized SUV.    For an overall experience of the vehicle, please visit:  http://www.nissanusa.com/suvs/pathfinder, follow Nissan on Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/NissanEspanol and visit your local Nissan dealer to test drive the vehicle for yourself.

This is part of a sponsored campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers and Nissan. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

Question:  What are the features you look at first when test driving a vehicle?  What is the most important feature overall when purchasing a  vehicle?
