My 2013 Nissan Pathfinder Experience

I was recently invited to attend the Los Angeles Internationa Auto Show – Nissan NEXT Event to preview the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder.   The all new Pathfinder is a mid-sized SUV and features a redesigned chassis, dual moonroof, a slightly larger model, increased fuel efficiency and is also equipped with a lot of technology features for the entire family.

As a mom one of the first things I look at in a car is safety.  The Nissan 2013 is equipped with several safetly features including built in GPS to immediately detect your location, antilock disc brakes and six front-seat & full-length airbags.  The  2013 Pathfinder also has a hands free built in phone system, a 360-degree AroundView Monitor camera system, a backup camera and parking sensors.  There are also child safety rear door locks for the passenger doors.

The second thing I look at is the appearance and features. Is it easy on the eyes?  Does it have an iPhone connection?  Can I listen to my favorite music? Will my family be entertained? These are the type of questions I have when checking a car.  The Nissan 2013 Pathfinder is a classy and sexy mid sized crossover SUV.  When I stepped into the vehicle is feels like a luxury car.   Immediately upon entering the car I had to check to ensure there is a USB connection for my iPhone.  I found it and was very pleased because it also had a roomy center-console to store my purse, CDs, DVDs and personal items.

If you are an adventurous family like mine, the vehicle also features 2WD, 4WD or Auto mode options and 5,000 pound towing capacity to tow your boat, trailer or camper on a hitch.  The beauty of this car is that it seats 7 people comfortably for a large family such as mine.  The seats in the rear also fold down for added cargo room.

The interior of the 2013 Nissan Pathfinder includes seats for 7 members of the family.  There is a lot of legroom for all the passengers and a roomy in the cargo area to carry groceries or sporting equipment.

The 2013 Nissan Pathfinder we previewed includes a Tri-Zone Entertainment System which is controlled with a touch screen display on the dash and Onstar FMV (For My Vehicle) feature for navigation services. The driver and front seat passenger can enjoy satellite radio while the remaining passengers watch movies on dual 7-inch DVD monitors.  One of the best features of the entertainment system are the wireless headsets and rear auxiliary audio and video input jacks for family members that want to plug in their video games or electronic equipment.

The Nissan Pathfinder has evolved from a rugged mid-sized SUV into a luxury crossover.   This vehicle is a great option for techie families in need of a  mid-sized SUV.    For an overall experience of the vehicle, please visit:, follow Nissan on Facebook and visit your local Nissan dealer to test drive the vehicle for yourself.

Question:  What are the features you look at first when test driving a vehicle?  What is the most important feature overall when purchasing a  vehicle?

Commit to Be a Big Brothers Big Sisters #LatinoBigs Mentor this New Year!

Every year I start off the holidays by making goals for the New Year.  I make a  list of nonprofits I want to support and volunteer with inorder to give back to the community.   Volunteering at the local nonprofits has always made a difference in my families life.  Many would consider  volunteering a burden, but in reality, for our family volunteering is a rewarding experience.  Do you agree?

I often think about the many people that have touch my life through their volunteer efforts and it has encouraged me to give back!  Big Brothers Big Sisters Latino Bigs mentoring program is similar to the programs I was a part of as a youth.   There is currently a need for Latino Bigs because they share a common culture with Latino Littles who are in need of a little attention from a caring mentor.

I identify with the kids and the program because similar to the youth I lived in a high risk area for youths and thankfully to the role model and mentors I had in my life I was able to avoid most of the risks.

Whether you’re a school teacher, working full-time, part-time or a student, Latino Bigs needs you to become a Big Campeones!  You don’t need special training or a degree to positively influence a child.  Everyone has the ability to make a big impact in a child’s life.

For the New Year consider engaging and supporting our Latino community as a ‘Big’ volunteer.  Commit to Be a Big Brothers Big Sisters #LatinoBigs Mentor this New Year!

Question:  Have you considered giving the gift of volunteerism as a New Year resolution?  How can we help Latino youth at risk?

Flan Recipe

With the Holiday’s upon us we need to start stocking up on delicious recipes and places to visit that make us feel happy and positive. The Maestro del Vaso Medio Lleno recently launched a new web series that focuses on incorporating positivity into your daily life. The “El Vaso Medio Lleno” Webshow includes ten webisodes that will air from November 5th through January 6th.

The first webisode “El Mejor Flan del Mundo” was filmed at popular Los Angeles bakery, Porto’s Bakery & Café, and includes an interview with one of the owner’s daughters Beatriz Portos. Beatriz share her family’s recipe for one of their most popular deserts – flan!

I’m so excited to share this recipe.  Recipes made with milk can help to make you feel positive and happy.  Make sure to follow the webisodes by subscribing to “El Vaso Medio Lleno” Youtube channel.

Vanilla Mint Latte Recipe

Our bedtime ritual has become a routine.  Whenever I get ready for bed I do a little reading, take a shower, drink a cup of warm milk, brush my teeth and go to sleep.  The warm glass of milk is perfect and helps prepare me for sleep.  Sometimes I add a little bit of cinnamon on top or create one of my favorite warm milk drinks, Vanilla Mint Latte.  Needless to say, its a ritual I look forward to every night.

Vanilla Mint Latte Recipe

2 cups milk, hot steamed to fill cup (or foamed)
5 fresh mint sprigs
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 tsp raw sugar

Heat milk on stovetop on medium heat for 3 minutes. Add mint leaves. Add vanilla. Heat for additional 3 minutes, stirring the leaves once or twice. Let simmer for 3 minutes and remove leaves. Pour heated milk over raw sugar and stir. Serve warm. Pour drink mixture into cup and serve!

Every night Telemundo and Univision feature the California Milk Board’s TV spot, “Ya es hora de ir a la cama” which reminds parents and children that it’s time to go to bed!  Remember to tune in every night between 7-9 pm PT to Telemundo and Univision to watch.  It’s a nice initiative since some kids are not sleeping enough. It’s important that they get enough hours of sleep to be more alert the following day.

If you have children, please visit to download the collection of bedtime stories to read with your children.

A Bedtime Story and Milk Help Children Sleep Better and $40 Walmart Giveaway #POSITIVISMO

Reading to children can provide a lot of benefits including strengthening the bond between parents and their children.   By now you know that giving your children milk before bedtime may help them sleep better and be more alert and aware the following morning.  There is a new collection of bedtime stories that were developed to encourage kids to drink milk while the story is being read to them. The books provide a fun and engaging way to spend quality time with your children, while helping them to get a good night’s sleep.

My favorite book is El Mal Humor de Benito.  All the books are bilingual and will not only help your child learn to read in multiple languages, but also encourages kids to have a glass of milk before they go to bed.  Benito the Elephant has a bad attitude to the point that a lot of the friends around him don’t want to be around him.    This story encourages children going through a similar situation and has a positive ending.

When was the last time you let yourself take the unexpected turn and see what unfolds? #seewhatunfolds

When was the last time you let yourself take the unexpected turn, the road less traveled and see what unfolds? For me as a fulltime employee, mom, wife and entrepreneur I need to make time for myself to explore and be creative.   It’s a pretty hectic day on the day to day basis in the Smith home.  Work, laundry, blog posts, deadlines — Can you relate?

One week in the busyness of it all I took  a walk in the park.   The following day I joined a  Zumbaa dance class to dance all night, release stress and just having a lot of fun with friends. It took me back to my teens and twenties when I danced to the rhythm of dance choreography and  college cheer.   The following day I took the day off to rejuvenate and relax and was swept up in a bit of fun. I grabbed a beach bag, bathing suit and sunglasses and made another  journey!  I enjoyed  a visit to the spa, a swedish massage and lunch — a completely spontaneous week.

While at the spa I enjoyed some Trident Layers gum.  The new Trident Layers flavors include a line up of unique blends including Layers Wild Strawberry + Tangy Citrus, Layers Peach + Mango, and Layers Juicy Berry + Tangy Tangerine.   My favorite is the layers orchard peach ripe mango gum.  It’s been my favorite gum to date.

I normally will chew up a pack of gum in less than a day because the flavor of the gum goes away quickly, but Trident Layers gum is different.  The flavor lasts a long time and has a  natural fruit flavor.  A pack of Trident gum will last at least a week.  The best thing is that its sugar free.

Trident is the spark that ignites a journey connecting you to the positivity you’ve always had inside.  Whenever I have a stick of  Trident gum it takes me back to the day I started to dance again and take a little bit of time for mom.  These days you’ll find me hiding my Trident mango-peach gum from my family and buying an extra pak to share.

Trident chewing gum invites you to “See What Unfolds” when its flavors create a spark that ignites a journey connecting you to the positivity you’ve always had inside.

Great news for California moms and families – Dollar General is opening 50 new stores.  Dollar General is different because it is convenient and affordable.   The stores are typically located in suburban, rural and metropolitan communities.

I recently had the opportunity to shop at a new Dollar General Store in Southern California.  In preparation for my shopping experience, I checked the online site for coupons, discounts and deals.  I clipped the $5 OFF $25 or more at DG coupon on Saturday, 7/14/2012 coupon and a couple of $1 and $2 off coupons for household and beauty products.  I also printed the coupons using the coupon print application provided by Dollar General and saved over $13 at the checkout!

The store is well stocked with National name brand food, snacks, school supplies, cleaning supplies, apparel for mom, dad and kids, party supplies and beauty supplies.  Find out more at –> .  I was able to purchase household products for our home, beauty products,  treats for our puppy and back to school products for my nephews — all at a discounted rate! If I had to do similar shopping at any other store I would have to go to 3 stores.   It’s a one stop shop for household needs for families.  Overall, I had an excellent experience.

In addition to giving discounts to shoppers, Dollar General also gives back to the community.   Dollar General is committed to the communities it serves and has a longstanding tradition of supporting literacy and education.  More information about the Dollar General Literacy Foundation can be found at
